About Us

HFH Planning is dedicated to providing conflict-free financial advice for individuals of all income levels. Partnering with you, we develop a financial plan that reflects your specific needs and goals.

We charge an hourly fee to create the plan. Generally speaking, when your finances are less complex, it takes less time for us to develop the plan, and you pay less. When finances are complex, the reverse is true.

The plan is yours to implement as you wish.
If you choose, we will implement your plan and conduct on-going monitoring, adjusting in response to changes in your situation that may arise. You are also free to implement the plan on your own, or with another financial professional.

After the plan development phase, we no longer charge by the hour.
HFH is one of the few firms to use your income and net worth to determine an appropriate fee for ongoing advice and direction. The advice we provide is based solely on our expertise — not on any commissions or hidden fees we might earn by recommending a particular product. Using income and net worth is truly objective, fair, transparent and aligned with your goals at all times. It also makes our services accessible to clients of any and all income levels. As Certified Financial Planner™ professionals, we are required to always put the interest of our clients before those of our firm. And we wouldn’t do business any other way.

We consult with tax attorneys, estate attorneys, accountants, stock brokers, insurance agents, and/or other professionals to implement the most effective long-term financial strategy for you. (U.S. Citizen or Resident.)

Hank HannauHank Hanau CFP®, Financial Strategist,  owned and operated a multi-million dollar business from 1964 through 1979 before selling it and joining the investment firm of Bache Halsey Stuart Shields (now Wells Fargo Securities) and becoming a Vice President of Investments.

Hank created HFH Planning for two reasons:

  • The commission based structure of major brokerage firms does not favor the middle-income individual who is most in need of a financial plan.
  • Due to the same fee structure, major brokerage firms, generally, may only suggest financial products for which they receive a commission – that is not always the best product for the client.

Martin PooleG. Martin Poole CFP®, joined HFH Planning Inc. as a Financial Strategist in March 2009. Previously Martin was a Wealth Management Product Specialist at Citigroup’s Family Office Group working with Citi Smith Barney financial advisors to pinpoint additional services to benefit their clients. He spent seven years at US Trust where he advised individuals and families on the management of their assets, building on his 12 years’ experience in a similar position at the Private Bank at Chase Manhattan (now JP Morgan Chase). He joined HFH Planning Inc. because of the unique service he can provide clients of all levels of wealth.

In addition to being a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, Martin is a Registered Financial Consultant. He also has a Master of Business Administration with Distinction from New York University and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Peter MayPeter May joined HFH Planning Inc as a Financial Strategist in 2015. Originally from Australia, Peter previously worked in the Institutional Clients Groups at Citigroup as a structurer and trader of corporate credit derivatives. Earlier in his career he worked as an equity analyst covering healthcare services and manufactured housing companies; as a regional finance manager in the telecom industry; and served a stint in the Peace Corps in Estonia. After threatening for many years to pursue financial planning (so much so, it had become a running joke with his wife), Peter finally decided to follow this long-held interest in personal finance and joined HFH.

Peter graduated Dean’s List and Beta Gamma Sigma from the MBA program at Columbia University, has a Bachelor of Science in Commerce from the University of Virginia, and holds a Certificate of Financial Planning from New York University. He has completed the CFP coursework and comprehensive exam. Peter lives in Park Slope, Brooklyn with his wife, two sons and a dog.
